How to Make Your E-bike More Efficient?
E-bikes are becoming more and more popular, as people are looking for ways to make their commute easier and less expensive. If you have an e-bike, there are a few things you can do to make it more efficient and get the most out of it.
1. Charge 100% Before Riding
It is important to charge your e-bike battery to 100% before riding, to get maximum efficiency. When the battery is low, the motor has to work harder which uses more energy and reduces range. A full charge will give you the best possible performance and range. If you are going on a long ride, it is best to charge the battery the night before so it is fresh and ready to go in the morning. Always check the battery level before setting off on a ride, and if possible, carry a charger with you just in case you need it. With a little planning, you can make sure that you always get the most out of your e-bike.
2. Use the Correct Tire Pressure
Having the correct tire pressure is important for two reasons. Firstly, it can help to improve range as less energy is required to move the bike. Secondly, it will improve comfort as the ride will be smoother.
It is a very important factor that most e-bike users forget. Having the right tire pressure not only saves energy while pedaling but also makes your ride smoother and more comfortable.
If you are unsure about what pressure to inflate your tires to, consult the user manual or ask at your local bike shop.
3. Use Fat Tires
Believe me, this is a pro tip! If you have the option of using fat tires on your e-bike, do it! They offer several benefits over standard tires. Firstly, they provide better traction which is especially useful in wet weather. Secondly, they can absorb bumps and vibrations better, making for a smoother and more comfortable ride. Finally, they can help to improve range as less energy is required to move the bike. If you are using your e-bike for off-road riding, then fat tires are a must.
Velowave Ranger is made up of fat tires. And that's why they offer maximum comfort and traction.
4. Use the Right Gear
Using the right gear can help you to save battery power and improve range. When riding up hills, it is best to use a lower gear so that you can take advantage of the motor’s power. On the flat or downhill, you can use a higher gear to pedal faster and further without using as much battery power. Experiment with different gears to find what works best for you and the type of riding you do.
5. Limit Use of Accessories
If you are not using accessories such as lights or a horn, then it is best to turn them off. They can drain the battery quickly and reduce your range. If you do need to use them, try to limit their use as much as possible.
When you limit the use of accessories, your battery power will be only used by the motor which will eventually help you to save some power, enhance your e-bike's range, and eventually increase in speed too.
6. Unlock the Speed Controller (Off-road controller)
Velowave Ranger can be equipped with an off-road controller which when unlocked allows the bike to go 32mph or even beyond. When on rough terrains, this will come in handy as you will be able to maintain high speeds without having to apply too much pressure on the pedals, thus conserving battery power.
Please keep in mind, that unlocking the speed will go way faster than with the limitation. But certain risk factors come into play. It's extremely risky to push your luck and ride at this speed once you've unlocked the barrier.
Moreover, most e-bike manufacturers do not provide insurance for such high speeds. So, it's better to ride safely rather than risk an accident.
7. Install a New Battery
Installing a new battery can be expensive, but if your old one is no longer holding a charge or is not giving you the range that it used to, then it may be time for an upgrade. A new battery can give your e-bike a new lease of life and significantly improve performance and range. A new battery comes up with full power and it will speed up your e-bike.
When you are choosing a new battery, it is important to choose one that is compatible with your bike and the type of riding you do. If you are unsure, then it is best to consult with a professional before making a purchase.
8. Adopt Aerodynamic Style
This may not be possible for everyone, but if you can, adopting an aerodynamic style can help to improve range. When riding, try to keep your body as close to the bike as possible and avoid any sudden movements. This will help to reduce wind resistance and make pedaling easier, thus improving range.
You should bend your body forward and get as close to the handlebars as possible. You can also wear tight-fitting clothes to further reduce drag.
Conclusion
If you want to increase your e-bike efficiency and make it faster and long-lasting at the same time, follow these tips. You will see the difference in your e-bike's performance and how much easier it is to ride. Also, don't forget to take care of your e-bike and give it regular maintenance to keep it in top condition.
i ordered the off road controller for my velowave ranger. It does not have instructions. can you please tell me how it is done.
Hi DAVE,
Thanks for asking!
Our battery life is around 3-5 years. the spare battery cost from $449 to $649. ;)
Hi JOHN,
Thank you for asking!
Prado S is a bit different from the Ranger model. If you unlock the speed. You will only reach up to 28mph by throttle only. But the speed will be still 28mph with pedaling. If you would like more info, please email cs@velowavebikes.com.
Hi ROBERT,
Thank you for asking! Please inbox or email cs@velowavebikes.com for these info.
Unlocking the speed will go way faster than with the limitation. We did not provide the password in the first place because of your safety. Please keep in mind, that it is very dangerous if you unlock the limitation and ride this fast. We do not provide any insurance on this. Therefore, we suggest you limit the speed. ;)
Hi EDICSON,
Thank you for asking! I guess you are talking about Ranger model. The max speed with pedaling is 28mph, with throttle only is 20mph. I guess you ride with throttle only, am I correct? If you do not want to pedal. I suggest you buy an off-road controller.
Please inbox or email cs@velowavebikes.com for any other questions. They will assist you better. ;)
